You do not have to worry about any of them, but you need to be prepared that stimulating the ovaries before artificial insemination requires administration of injections. You will be administering these injections yourself subcutaneously into the navel area with a thin needle. These are hormonal injections that stimulate the growth of multiple follicles in the ovaries. This enlargement of the ovaries may be associated with mild abdominal pain. The process of egg retrieval itself takes place under short-term general anesthesia (it takes approximately 5-10 minutes) and is not painful.
The number of IVF cycles is not limited, which means that there is no upper limit on the number of cycles a woman can complete in her lifetime. However, in the case of repeated failure with your own eggs and partner’s sperm, we can suggest an alternative – using either donor eggs or donor sperm. Of course, we select the procedure after an individual assessment of the causes of failure to achieve pregnancy. This may often be caused by poor quality of gametes or embryos.
Health insurance companies will reimburse 3 IVF cycles until the woman reaches the age of 39 years and 364 days, provided that the cause of infertility has been confirmed on the part of either the woman, her partner, or both partners simultaneously. As a part of the payment for IVF cycles, most of the price of the medicines, as well as the procedures associated with the process are reimbursed. However, a certain part of the procedures is not reimbursed by the health insurance company and the patients pay for it themselves – these are micromanipulation techniques of egg fertilization, embryo freezing and also preimplantation genetic testing of embryos. Of course, for any given couple, the surcharges for the services beyond the scope covered by the insurance company will depend on what assisted reproduction techniques will be implemented. IVF is not reimbursed in women who have previously undergone abortion or sterilization at their own request.
No, only a couple can undergo an IVF treatment. The partner must officially recognize his paternity of the future child.
Your attending physician will decide about the next steps. There are several options, but they all depend on your health condition and the given circumstances.
Yes, hormonal treatment is safe for a woman if it is supervised by professionals. If you notice any adverse events, immediately inform your physician.
There is basically no age limit on IVF. However, after reaching the age of 40, the patient pays for the entire procedure herself. You should also note that after reaching the age of 40, the general chances of getting pregnant are significantly reduced, and this also applies in the case of pregnancy after IVF.
The frequency of your visits will depend on the specific treatment procedure, but in principle, you should count on a few visits per month at least at the beginning of the whole process.
Yes, none of the treatment procedures requires long-term absence from work. On the other hand, we recommend that women go easy on themselves during the IVF treatment and do not overstrain themselves. If your work is more physically demanding, you should consider taking it easy the during critical periods (after fertilization). We also recommend sickness absence to women who work in an infectious environment, or in an environment with a higher incidence of harmful or toxic substances or radiation in the workplace.
The percentage of children with congenital anomalies born after IVF is slightly higher and represents about 4%, compared to 2% of children conceived naturally. However, the higher percentage of congenital genetic disorders and genetic anomalies is due to the fact that the average age of women undergoing IVF is higher than the average age of pregnant women in general, and as we know, the risk of these complications in pregnancy increases with age, in particular after the age of 35. Therefore, for any woman who becomes pregnant after an IVF cycle, we recommend undergoing a thorough screening during pregnancy – ideally in a facility providing prenatal diagnostic services.
The male partner should be actively involved in the whole process of striving to conceive a child, he should show genuine interested in his partner and be her support in all possible aspects of the IVF treatment. Providing support is his key role in the whole process.

Health insurance companies require that any woman who wants to undergo initial examinations and get treatment at an assisted reproduction clinic has an official medical referral from a gynecologist. If you do not have it, you have to pay for the tests and examinations yourself. During the coronavirus pandemic, the referral is not required.
Be sure to bring all the results of the previous tests and examinations that you have gone through – either you personally or your partner. Also, if you regularly see an endocrinologist, hematologist or a diabetologist, bring the medical reports from these specialist clinics, too. If you have had a laparoscopy performed in the past, or if you have been checked for fallopian tubes patency, bring the medical report on these procedures to the first consultation appointment. If you have not yet been to any of the mentioned examinations, we will complete all the necessary tests in our facility.
Yes, your partner’s participation at the initial consultation appointment is desirable. In addition to psychological support, it is very important that he is well-informed about the procedures awaiting you at the clinic. After all, it is your shared dream. In accordance with the anti-epidemic measures taken during the pandemic, the presence of the patients’ partners is temporarily limited.
