MESA/TESE surgical sperm retrieval
Sperm retrieval from epididymis (MESA – microsurgical sperm aspiration or testicular sperm extraction (TESE). Surgical sperm retrieval is recommended if no sperm are present in the ejaculate or if the number of sperm is insufficient to fertilize the eggs during an IVF cycle. In approximately 70% of such cases, sperms can be obtained by surgical retrieval. Such sperms can then be used in an IVF cycle to fertilize eggs using the ICSI method. The procedure is indicated and performed by an andrologist under general inhalation anesthesia and after performing the relevant required tests .
